Allergies are overreactions by the immune system to specific substances, known as allergens. The following forms of allergy are distinguished:

• Inhalation allergies, e.g. to pollen, house dust or animal hair
• Contact allergies, e.g. to nickel or
  cosmetics
• Food allergies, e.g. to strawberries or preservatives
• Drug allergies, e.g. to penicillin
• Insect venom allergies, e.g. to bee or wasp venom
• Parasitic or microbial allergies

In our allergology clinic, many allergies can be precisely identified by specifically questioning the patient and by performing extensive skin and blood tests. The allergies can then be treated.

Apart from drug treatment, we have been
very successful in treating many allergic
diseases, such as hay fever, with the so-called hyposensitisation therapy.

Sun allergies can often be treated by using artificial UV light. This is also used in the treatment of psoriasis and neurodermitis.

Artificial UV light also has favourable effects on acne and other diseases.
